Teaching Experience

I'm a highly qualified and experienced teacher of GCSE and A Level English Literature, English Language and Creative Writing. I have over 20 years experience at a college in Nottingham, where I was also a Curriculum Leader.  I am an AQA Examiner and am one of the few teachers in the whole East Midlands who has taught Creative Writing A Level. I have also been an Associate Lecturer at the University of Derby where I trained teachers on their Post-14 PGCE Teacher Training qualification. I have acted as a Mentor to trainee teachers. I'm an expert at linguistic and literary critical analysis with a proven track record of success. I have full DBS checks.

Approach to Teaching

 

I'm an exciting and passionate teacher of all things English. My friendly and easy-going style builds effective working relationships. I'm a family man who cares deeply about everyone getting the right education. I believe in providing the best education possible for my students. I'm fun & feisty with a lively approach to linguistic and textual analysis. I try to ensure that my students feel relaxed and comfortable in their learning environment. I try to motivate by creating a positive work ethic and remain focussed on achieving students' personal targets. I get the best out of my students by understanding their needs well and shaping their learning accordingly. My frequent successes show this. I can definitely help students to improve their grades or pass their course. I'm also a musician and a published poet who has had many years of performance and creative writing experience.
